 Gatekeeper

Paul Kruger’s statue in Church Square is arguably the most illustrious in central PreTshwane. A significant divide exists between the eastern and western sectors of PreTshwane, the axis created by Paul Kruger Street. Experientially divided, the western sector comprises historic Marabastad, the Asiatic Bazaar and abandoned buildings, whereas the eastern side, is functionally superior. Gatekeeper (2021), an enormous man sits astride the Department of Arts and Culture building, securing the east/west divide.
